About the Role

Brightview Education is hiring a VP of Engineering whose mandate covers owning technical strategy, platform architecture and engineering execution across its education business. Based in Phoenix, AZ on a hybrid basis, the role reports to the senior vice president or the relevant c-suite executive and carries a remit of Functional leadership across several teams and regions. Brightview Education is an education organisation serving learners across campus and online programmes. The appointed leader inherits 60–220 people and will be measured on the strategic priorities set out below rather than activity.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering directors and managers across platform and product teams
  • Set the technical standards, review culture and delivery cadence
  • Own hiring, levelling and retention for the engineering organisation

First 12 months

Modernise legacy architecture without stalling the roadmap
Scale the organisation with a clear levelling and performance framework
Improve delivery predictability while reducing platform incident volume

Day to day

Key Responsibilities

  • Own delivery predictability, reliability and engineering quality
  • Balance investment between new capability, platform health and security
  • Partner with product on scope, sequencing and measurable outcomes
  • Manage the engineering budget, vendor mix and build-versus-buy decisions
  • Define the multi-year technical strategy and architecture roadmap

Qualifications

  • Depth in modern cloud architecture, reliability and security practice
  • Track record hiring and retaining senior engineering talent
  • Engineering leadership experience running multi-team organisations
  • 12+ years, including 4+ leading managers of progressive leadership experience
  • Experience operating in the education sector or an adjacent regulated market
